On behalf of Together for Adoption and our local authority partners, PAC-UK First Family Service provide independent support to birth parents and offer one to one talking sessions with a professional, plus opportunities to meet with other birth parents, both virtually and face to face. Find out more at PAC-UK website (external link).

There is also a national support group for birth families called Family Rights Group. They have support and information for those affected by adoption in England.

The birth families support map from Family Rights Group can help. The online map can help you to look for support available in your area (or in any other area in England).

The map includes information about services that are free for birth families, including those which offer:

  • General or legal advice and information about adoption
  • Advocacy support when dealing with children’s services and other agencies
  • Counselling or therapeutic support
  • Support groups
  • Support with contact with an adopted child
  • Support for birth family members to access adoption records and information (some services included in the map may charge a fee for this kind of service).

The adoption support team is available from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday via telephone 01942 487272 or email PASupport@wigan.gov.uk.
